America's Cup and San Fran with friends

This morning, we headed down to San Francisco to see our good friends Ashley & Aaron Stern. We talk often about how we should take the kids into the city to see them, but we hadn't done it yet. Today was a down weekend for both of us so it was perfect!

First, here are a few shots of baby girl digging in the garden (i.e. eating dirt) yesterday. She was super thrilled about it.

Saying "uh oh" and being cute does not make this any better.
Anyway...so it took us about an hour to get to their apartment in Pacific Heights. It turned out to be a beautiful day - very odd, no fog! The kids LOVED their fire escape and how you could climb through their windows...
Our rule was "hold on to the wall at all times!"

Seriously this is the view from their living room. Overlooking Alta Plaza Park, and
down the street at the water and the skyline of SF. Pretty amazing.

Me & Caroline enjoying the view...well, me anyway.

Ashley trying to get some cuddle time with C. Not happening!
We decided to walk down to the Marina and see the America's Cup Village. We thought we were on time to see a race, and there were lots of things for kids to do there, so we hoofed it down their street.

The Mrs. Doubtfire house!!

Walking down to Lombard Street and over to Fillmore.

At the entrance to the America's Cup Village.

Aaron looks mighty comfortable with that stroller...

Ashley, Jack and I trying to catch some of the action,
with the Golden Gate in the background.

We saw Race 9: Team Emirates New Zealand vs. Team Oracle USA.

They had this cool pool set up where kids could race
remote control sailboats. Jack LOVED it.

His boat. I think.

Family photo op.

One of the real boats...not for today's race, obviously.

They also had a bouncy section for kids...guess who had fun?

The crowd gathered to watch the race.

Neck in neck! Go Team USA!

That's Alcatraz in the background, with a TON of helicopters circling the race overhead.

Afterwards, we had lunch at the tents set up in the village. Hot dogs and pretzels for the kids, and awesome noodle bowls (only in SF....) for us. Yum. The we walked back up the hill (hill is a funny word, isn't it?? It felt like a mountain...) to their apartment, making a yummy and much-needed pit stop for gelato. Caroline napped in the Ergo while Jack took advantage of Daddy's goodwill and rode the stroller up.

We decided to let the kids run around on the playground at the park before heading home.

Seriously this is the view from the playground. Like whhhaaaaattt???

Kids don't know how cool these swings are.

Caroline had just woken up. She wasn't too smiley yet.

Who is that at the top?? Oh yea, Daddy.

Jack on the crazy merry-go-round thing.

Not quite sure what she was doing here....falling over?

Jack got stuck (obviously.)

Guess who had to help him?

"uh oh"

Caroline's turn on the merry-go-round.

Caroline and Aaron enjoying some QT.
We had a great day with our friends! And seeing the races was definitely a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. What a relaxing and enjoyable way to spend a Sunday.
