408K Race Day

Here is a random assortment of photos from our day yesterday. I would write more, but my whole body hurts - literally even my wrists. That's a good thing, though?? Right??

The start line. We left in waves every 5 minutes...there were a TON of people.
For the record, I did just over 5 miles in 58 minutes. And I ran 90% of it. Except for the part where I had to walk, because I fell flat on my face in the middle of the road. Yes, my face. I skinned up my knees (my right knee in particular) and my chin and scraped up my hands. But every athlete has battle scars, right?? :)

My swag.
You can see how far back I was in the pack, ha ha ha.
My view of myself. (Hey, I was alone. What do you expect?)
SELFIE!!!!!
The race went well. I was proud of myself for all of my actual running (and not having to stop and walk) until a 78-year-old woman and her dog passed me (I spoke with her after the race...to tell her good job! Because she schooled a bunch of us that were more than half her age.)

I did learn that I will need to do much longer training runs before my 9-Miler in Big Sur in April. At 5 miles, I had a little left to "sprint" to the finish, but not much. I need to build some more endurance.

Also, I am really, really sore today in the weirdest spots - my neck and my wrists. My legs are tired, but they don't hurt. G-Doc said that I am most likely sore from my stupid FALL instead of the race itself...so that's a good sign!
The finish line. At times, I thought I'd never see this.
Justin, Jack, Caroline, Gigi and G-Doc met me at Santana Row after the race
so that Jack could run the kid's race. He was super pumped.

My little runner.

Warm up.

He thought our matching bibs were super cool.

"Stop bothering me and let me focus. I'm an athlete!"

Our cheering section :)

All of us.

Look at him go! I had to sprint to keep up with him!

Waiting for his turn.

Cool down.
Caroline's cool down :)
It was a great day! I am so lucky to have Justin's parents in town so that I can go get a MASSAGE today!!! I cannot wait!

  1. Loved the pics! Looks like it was so much fun. I just started training again too for my first ever race. I'm only a month in, with two more months before the big day. And have mercy, I hope the weather warms up here soon b/c I'm getting so bored of running inside!
    Congrats on the finish!
