12-Month Checkup!

Jack survived his 12-month checkup and had fun playing in the toy house at Dr. Hunt's office. He was not such a fan of his shots, but what can you do??

Here are his stats:
  • Weight: 22.5 pounds. (45th percentile...We thought he weighed WAAAY more, we were shocked!)
  • Length: 29.5 inches (38th percentile)
  • Head Circumference: 46 cm (37th percentile)

Poor, short Jack. Hopefully he will grow taller soon! He also got a few shots, including:

  • Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine
  • MMR Booster
  • Chickenpox

He has one more set of shots at 15 months and then he is DONE with well-baby visits until he is 4 years old! How exciting is that?? I was so thrilled that we probably won't have to live at the doctor's office next year. :)

Other than that, things are going fine. I did talk to them about Jack's propensity to get bit at daycare, and they assured me that although this may be very bothersome to us, it's pretty normal. Unless the bite breaks the skin, we are OK. We did talk to his teachers about this (again) and we will see where that gets us.

Jack is really changing by the day. It's amazing all of the new things he can do! He says a lot of words pretty clearly, like "bubbles" and "ball" as well as "Mama" and "Dada." (Justin said when I was working late last night, he just stood at the gate saying "Mama mama" over and over. SO CUTE!) He loves to have his belly tickled and laughs hysterially when Justin does this. He can play catch with a big bouncy ball and loves throwing things with his awesome pitching arm. Maybe we have a future Chipper Jones in our midst? Jack also loves the stairs - going up and down - which is very dangerous and means you have to keep a constant close eye on him! It is worth it, though, because he is so darn cute :)

Until next time...

Jack's First Birthday!

Our baby boy turned 1 on Saturday. It was a fun day of celebration for family and friends! (Although the poor kid is still paying the price today. Going from no sugar to eating basically an entire cupcake all alone ... messed up his little tummy!)

Anyway, we enjoyed a wonderful summer day with our grandparents and friends. Here are a few photos from the day. Enjoy!

Jack and Mommy

Have you ever seen a kid look so proud of himself???

"Hey! It's my special day!"

He is now walking all over the place! He still hates shoes though.

"Mmmm, cake!" The classic shot that he will hate until he's 100 years old :)

Celebrating with our little man. What a year it's been!

Super excited about his first birthday!

Jack is almost ONE YEAR OLD!

We are preparing to celebrate his big first birthday on Saturday. The cake is ordered, the favors are bought, and everything is ready to go! We are looking forward to a nice visit with all four grandparents this weekend.

So what can our big guy do now?
  • Say "bubbles" ... no idea where he got this from, but yesterday he started yelling "BUBBLES!!!" when we were playing with the bubble wand outside. His other favorite words? "Mama," "Dada," "Ball," "HOT," and (only because I was searching for it yesterday at the store,) "Goo Gone." Amazing huh?
  • Walk like a champ! He gets about 15-20 steps in now before he falls down. Soon he will be toddling around everywhere!
  • Give up bottles. I think he is slowly weaning himself off his bottles. He pretty much always refuses them at daycare now, and is really only interested in the one before bed. This is a good thing, because we will save a lot on formula!
  • Wear 18-24 month clothes. Yup, the 12 month stuff is too tight. Sigh. It's all in the belly!
  • LOVE THE POOL! Just like Mommy!!

Our First Day Ever at the Pool!

Well, we have officially joined suburbia. Yesterday we became members of the Westborough Tennis & Swim Club (see here.) We had been looking for a place to be able to go as a family to relax, exercise, and most importantly, meet other families in the area with kids Jack's age. They have a great family atmosphere. I did my first spin class this morning (ouch!) and I brough Justin and Jack back this afternoon. They have a baby pool that is perfect to Jack to learn to swim and toddle around in.

We spent a wonderful warm afternoon in the sun. Jack - of course - loved it! He was a little cranky after a long day at daycare, so we are hoping that tomorrow, when we can go early, he will be a little more of his smiley self. Dad did manage to snap some pictures though of Jack's first ever day at the pool!
