Quirky yet cute.

Caroline is so adorably quirky. I am not sure if all 6-month-olds are like this (I honestly can't remember!) but she does things all the time that just leave me smiling and shaking my head. For example...

She is the loudest sleeper I have ever heard. Most nights, I share a room with her because she sometimes still gets up to eat. She wakes me up (through earplugs!) multiple times a night with groans, giggles, sighs, full belly laughs, screeches, howls, and whimpers - all while she is completely sound asleep. I dart out of bed, shushing her calmingly, thinking she's woken up scared or hungry...and her little eyes are tightly shut as she does all these things.

She also loves to try her newfound pincher grasp on anything. Her little fingers work to quickly grasp tiny little things like pieces of ribbon, my hair, my freckles on my shoulders, Justin's glasses, her puffs, my ring, our watches, etc. She gets this furrowed brow of extreme concentration and then of course, when she's successful, the item goes directly into her mouth.

She still sleeps tightly swaddled. But she can get out, and frequently does. Today she had gotten one arm out and one leg, and was kicking her music maker in her crib while her other leg was still lost in the swaddle. She found it hilarious.

Recently she discovered that the bottoms of her feet are ticklish. So now diaper changes, where I hold her like a bound hog, are full of huge giggles. Then her feet go directly into her mouth while she laughs hysterically.

She absolutely loves anyone looking at her. In stores, like Target or Safeway, she rides in the cart holding on like such a proud big girl. When someone even glances in her direction, she dissolves into a fit of giggles.

She eats cloth like it's her job. Her shirt, sheets, blankets, pillows, Jack's taggies (he gets really mad.) She loves to gnaw on cloth. I think she has a little bit of Pop-Pop and his proclivity for napkin-chewing in her :)

Yesterday she crawled (scooted?) backwards for about 10 feet. She has also started lunging forward over her feet in the sitting position. Crawling for real is in our very immediate future!

She takes baths with Jack just sitting on a mat in the tub. She kept lunging out of her baby lounger face-first into the water, so this is actually safer...and they both love splashing each other.

She is a big talker! Screeches, coos, grunts and clicks make up her language now...but soon they will be real words!

We are loving every second of watching her grow. She is SO good and we get comments all the time about how chill and happy she is. She fits her name so well to me!!

About Jack...small update. His last ear tube fell out in September and his ENT doctor ordered a hearing test. He passed beautifully in his right ear, but failed in his left. We have to go back to his ENT next week to take a look.

And me...although I was cleared on my big ultrasound last month, I am still having a LOT of pain around my incision. I have an appointment tomorrow with a surgeon specializing in post-operative pain. I will let you know results if I get any.

Ciao!
